A great anniversary was celebrated this year! Again, the prestigious awards of the wellness industry, the European HEALTH & SPA AWARDS, were presented, this time for the 15th time. Even though the general conditions are still not really ideal due to the significant increase in costs, this gala was used to celebrate the best in the industry in Europe. The so-called "Oscars" of the SPA industry are the only independent awards in the health and wellness sector and honour Europe's best companies for their special achievements. The gala took place on 28 June 2023 in Vienna. Numerous entrepreneurs travelled from Europe to honour the great innovations and achievements.
The European HEALTH & SPA AWARDS always send a signal that health tourism and travel are also important to do something for health or your well-being!
Numerous renowned companies also took part for the first time and successfully passed the demanding requirements. As every year, however, some failed to meet the holistic criteria. It can also be seen that comprehensive quality management is important.
The guests were welcomed with a glass of prosecco at the hotel. The festive ambience in the elegant Salon Schönbrunn with its atmospheric lighting and historical splendor was a worthy setting for the gala dinner. The tension slowly increased until the great voice of Miram Luna (www.miriamluna.com) - the Spanish singer - was heard at the beginning and she accompanied herself on the piano, the audience was moved and there was attentive silence. Every time if this voice fills the room, it is a special experience. She charged the musical program of the entire evening with emotion.
Afterwards, a good-humoured ORF presenter Olivia Peter entered the stage and opened the gala.
Gala dinner
The 4-course gala dinner offered a variety of healthy ingredients that were light and easily digestible, starting with a tartar of beetroot with shiitake mushrooms and chipotle, which left a slightly spicy taste, followed by a delicious cream of asparagus soup with raw vegetables. The culinary highlight followed, as every year, before the awards ceremony, a delicately roasted salmon trout fillet with raw marinated fennel and potato tart, very digestible at this time of the day. The fruity conclusion of this composition was the variation of marinated red berries with sorbet. The accompaniment was Grüner Veltliner, Chardonnay and Rheinriesling - fine wines from the Josef Hintermayer winery in the “Weinviertel” region of Lower Austria.
Musical program
The musical programme this time, as already mentioned, was arranged by a soloist at the piano Miram Luna (www.miriamluna.com). She presented a variation of well-known hits, which elated the guests and was an ideal accompaniment to the gala dinner.
Nominations
The nominees were presented to the audience at 20:30, despite the still difficult conditions due to ongoing crises in the economy, they gave a first impression of how innovative the various submissions were. In order to score points at the European HEALTH & SPA AWARDs, it is necessary to reach a minimum number of points - winners need at least 30 points and in order to be nominated at all, 25 points are required.
The eight evaluation criteria, such as health benefits, sustainability, economy, creativity, offer and service, played an important role. Corporate Social Responsibility, the measures for good working conditions for the employees, is also important. The nominations were made in the categories Best SPA Manager, Best Destination SPA, Best Hotel SPA, Best Thermal Bath, Best Day-SPA, Best Medical SPA, Best Signature Treatments as well as Best Technical and Best Cosmetic Product Innovation and the category "Best Spa Innovation".
Jury
The evaluation was carried out by a jury of experts and mystery testers in a two-stage procedure, among them were experts from business and the media. Since 2013, the points awarded have also been supplemented by "Brilliants", which are awarded once a certain number of points have been reached. According to this system, companies can receive 1 to 4 Brilliants; the number of Brilliants reflects the quality achieved in a very descriptive way.
The Winners
At 21:30 the time had come - the tension was noticeable - and the much-awaited presentation of the awards in 13 categories began, with the presentation of the winners. The presenter of the event, Olivia Peter from ORF, interviewed the winners, and before that, short laudations of the jury's evaluations were read. The winners were interviewed about their entries in an original and humorous way by Olivia Peter.
The trends in the important health and wellness industry were once again highlighted in a glamorous evening - the future guests of the hotels can once again look forward to new services and an increase in health benefits in the spa.
